Outdoor Faucet - The Plumbing SourceMake sure all outside faucets are turned off in the winter and disconnect the outside hoses. It is also a good idea to go  inside and turn the shut off valve on the copper line leading to the faucet.  Then, open the faucet on the outside to let the remaining water drain out.  Why?   Prevent freezing of pipes and costly repairs in springtime.

Shut main water supply to your home if going away for any length of time.  For example, a vacation or weekend get away.   Why?  Number one insurance claim on your home is water damage!  When temperature drops below freezing, have someone check in on your house.
